with google down to earth
Wednesday, April 25th, 2007Yesterday I was randomly browsing the world with google earth.
I specifically wanted to update myself how populated our planet already is, how much space there is left yet untouched.
It was very hard to not find human activity indicators as roads and fields. First I had a look at the UK for curiosity … pretty hopeless. Central France wasn’t better either, agricultural patch work pattern everywhere.
Ok, I tried the rain forest in Brazil. Not much left actually… then Africa - dessert in mind. Better.
But what a shock when I browsed over Sudan, Dafur especially, with all the flame symbol annotations and testimonials of slaughtered and raped people … That was really shocking, but definitely a good usage of google earth’s markup functionality.
